Pro is the first seat in the SMP4BIKE range and uses a longer and wider body than the other models in the same range. The comfortable padding guarantees good comfort. It is covered in real leather in the black versions and Lorica microfiber in the colored versions. PRO is the most narrow version of this series of models. The patented features by Selle SMP, such as the completely free central channel, the original eagle-beak nose and the raised rear give these models an interesting aerodynamic touch. It is well-padded and suited for people with medium-wide and wide pelvises.

Features:

  • Cover: "Primo fiore" genuine leather carefully selected: soft, pleasing hand to the touch, compact and durable surface.
  • Padding: Special foamed elastomer with extraordinary elasticity: performance unchanged over time, right balance of softness and compression strength.
  • Body: Nylon 12 loaded with carbon fiber: to overcome the most stringent resistance and stability tests over time, while providing the necessary lightness.
  • Fixing Plates: Nylon 12 loaded with carbon fiber: higher standards of security and robustness.
  • Rail: Alloy tube Ø 7.1 mm: great longitudinal elasticity, high resistance to mechanical stress and corrosion.

Selle SMP Pro Saddle (Black) (AISI 304 Rails) (148mm)
Can a Selle SMP Pro Saddle Make you faster?
It made me faster! It might help you. So how does a saddle make me faster. It lets me spend time in the drops without pain (In my lower back or butt), and does so without worrisome numbness in my manhood! I'm an older rider and was having trouble with low back pain on rides more than 30 min, even when I rode more upright, with hands on the top bar. With this saddle, that problem went away first ride. So I could ride longer, and get stronger. That made me faster too. Once I had the saddle adjusted I felt solidly connected to the bike. The padding is not to soft, not squirmy or squishy, I say it's on the firm side. There are other SMP saddles with more padding If you are already comfy in the drops, and don't have discomfort in your back / butt, or numbness. Stick with what you have, this will hurt your wallet!

What's bad about it?
The price! Why do these cost so much? What do they cost in Europe? Would I buy one again? Yes without hesitation.

The setup. You have to get the position just right. Close is not good enough. You have to go to the web site before you buy, to make sure you are getting the right model for your body size and riding style. You have to take tools with you on your first several rides. (or keep riding around the block, between adjustments)THEN YOU STILL BETTER TAKE TOOLS on your first long ride. Your seat post has to have infinitely adjustable angle. (Not notchey a few degrees at a time) Experiment until you get it right. A tiny adjustment made the difference between just OK and JUST GREAT.

Squeaky seat rails. After 500 or so miles I started hearing a squeak from the saddle. I looked on the web and most people thought there squeaks came from where the seat rails joined the saddle. In my case it was the seat rails connection to the seat post. I put parks bearing grease on the rails and tightened the seat post bolts. Problem solved! But it was scary. I never had seat rails squeak before. Not a squeak since.
