This is a pair of Shimano PD-M424 Caged SPD Pedals. The Shimano M424 pedal shares its technology with the high end M515, but features a composite cage that makes it lighter than the M515. Plus, the pop-up floating cage design allows dual sided access, and easy cleat entrance.

Shimano PD-M424 SPD Pedals
My experiences with SPD pedals go back quite a ways and I have to say that although I prefer speedplay on my road bike, I have SPD on every other bike I own. The M424 is the best multi function pedal I have come across so far. The nylon/plastic cage is comfortable enough to ride with sandals on if I am cruising to the corner store, but if i feel like taking a longer ride on my townie, I can throw on a pair of my SPD cleat shoes and enjoy the benefits of the clipped in system. These are not performance pedals, nor do they pretend to be, but they are the best cruiser/ commuter pedals i have come across.
