2013 Van Dessel Rivet Road Bike
Van Dessel makes no qualms about designing their bikes with the athlete in mind and the Rivet gets right to the core of their needs. The Rivet is performance, function and dependability in its purest form. Quite simply, the Van Dessel Rivet has the best of modern technology matched to their renowned state-of-the-art carbon frame.Van Dessel uses a process that they call tube-to-tube wrapping. The result is a lighter, stronger frame with tighter tolerances and specific butting. The frame is reinforced in crash susceptible areas as well without adding unnecessary weight. The Rivet features an oversized bottom bracket for added stiffness under acceleration and to house the BB30 bottom bracket. Instead of using a house brand fork, Van Dessel uses an ENVE 2.0 full carbon fork, which is 100% unidirectional molded carbon fiber from steerer tube to drop out, and weighs in at a remarkably light 350 grams. The head tube is tapered 1 1/8" to 1 1/4" to accommodate both the fork and the demand for maximum stiffness under rider torque. The frame has a gorgeous matte black finish and duo-tone Van Dessel branding on the seat and down tubes.
The Rivet is covered in all-new SRAM Red. SRAM shed weight, improved function and overall cosmetic design for 2012. The DoubleTap controls have an ErgoFit textured body that improves grip and finger wrap due to reduced hood diameter. The results are better control and a more natural transition from the shifter to the handlebar. It has an easier to access individual reach adjust for comfort and the ZeroLoss shifting engages for results. The derailleurs are improved as well; most notably the front derailleur features a Yaw cage which rotates in line with the chain. This improves shifting speed and precision while eliminating the need for shifter trim. It's optimized for the chosen SRAM Red X GlideR chainrings.
The Red brakes are redesigned with a new AeroLink arm to reduce frontal area, but improve braking performance and modulation. The Aero design extends to the shape of the indexed four-position quick release, the bladed barrel adjuster, low-profile pinch bolts, and recessed spring tension adjusters; in other words nearly every nook and cranny was considered in order to make the most aero brake possible.
The SRAM Red Exogram compact 50/34 crank set is truly remarkable. In order to make it lighter, they made it bigger. In order to add stiffness, they used less material. This magic trick is accomplished by completely hollowing out the cranks all the way to the spider. The stunning X Glide R chainrings deliver seamless, flawless performance.
FSA supplies the meat of the cockpit: an SL-K seat post, OS 99 stem, and most notably a full carbon K-Force New Ergo handlebar. The K-Force bar uses a continuous 3K carbon and kevlar composite construction for superior strength and shock absorbing properties. Reinforced and textured clamping areas add durability and prevent bar slip. They weigh a mere 185 grams.
They say you can't judge a book by its cover, but that does not hold true for the Rivet. Take one look at the Van Dessel Rivet and you'll quickly see incredible design and technology. Look between the lines and you'll see no corners were cut, or opportunities missed.
