Shimano Dura-Ace BR-9000 Brake Calipers
Just when we were starting to think that Shimano's mechanical Dura-Ace group had reached functional perfection, along comes the Dura-Ace 9000 groupset with the astoundingly powerful BR-9000 dual-pivot brake calipers and proves us wrong. The BR-9000 brake calipers may look fairly traditional at first glance, but the more you look, the more you realize that these are no ordinary brake calipers. Instead of the caliper's mounting bolt acting as the second pivot, Shimano's engineers added a true second pivot, which functions totally independently of the mounting bolt. The new system centers the caliper over the wheel and uses an integrated rolling cam to produce equal tension on both the left and right arms of the caliper. The action is smooth, powerful and super-light thanks to a friction-reducing twin bearing system. And speaking of friction, Shimano even developed new polymer-coated cables for these brakes, which makes the action even lighter to the touch. Both the power and predictable modulation that Dura-Ace brakes deliver, but the BR-9000s literally start where the others left off and represent a giant leap in braking performance.- 10% more braking power than their BR-7900 predecessors
