Mountain bike chains aren't much different than your standard road bike chain, however that doesn't mean all replacement bike chains are the same. With the higher end bike chains using lightweight and stronger materials, you'll have less chance of breakage. On the lower end of the spectrum, they're a bit heavier but they're all designed to resist the rugged demands of the casual to hard core mountain biker.
