Comments about VIEWPOINT ViewPoint OS Spacebar:

If you have 2 bikes, you will want to purchase 2 of the space bars. They are a permanent mount item.

I added mine to my mtm bike to see if it would help my light (cygolite tridenx) by raising it up a little. Wow, I was very, very pleased with the improvement. With the light set on its lowest setting I could see the entire road (no street lights or other lights were used). It was a major improvement. The tridenX can now compete with my mitycross I have mounted to my helmet.

Oh and by the way, I've read all the horror stories of how it took an hour or so to put the bar on. Disregard the critics, it took me maybe 5 minutes to put it on!

I have a Brompton Folding Bicycle and this was perfect as a mount for lighting and an Edge 705. It has remained stable and rust free (despite the fears of others) for over 4 years and 3000 miles of riding and 40,000 miles or traveling on trains and buses (even in the rain). I'm not exactly sure what you would use this device for on conventional bikes, but I just bought another Brompton and am buying another one of these Spacebars to put on it, who knows maybe I'll get a 100,000 miles out of this one.

Comments about VIEWPOINT ViewPoint OS Spacebar:

This is an excellent idea, especially for someone with an oversize bar and limited space for computer and lights.

Unfortunately, the mounting bracket is based on a concept that the Soviet carmaker Lada would have rejected as too crude. Not only does it use a cheap metal band that bends out of shape as you try to get it around the handlebar, but the band has only 3 holes, which seems to guarantee that the fit will either be too tight or too loose. To top it all off, it is fastened by a screw that has to pass like JFK's magic bullet through two holes in the band and into the fastening nut, while all the time being 100% blocked from your view during assembly by the pylon that the spacebar will attach to. In short, you will have to be a very, very lucky duck to get this mounted in under an hour, and then don't even think of taking it off and getting it back on again.

I'm a big Performance fan and I buy lots of stuff from them both online and in my local shop. This product is far below their quality standard and should not be included in their inventory.

I'm taking mine back tomorrow and I advise against anyone buying this piece of junk.

Erector Set Hardware
By RobVerified Reviewer from Akron, Ohio on 10/11/2008
Pros:
Lightweight
Cons:
Handlebar Mount, Hardware is Junk, Not Durable, Not Waterproof, Takes an hour to Install
Describe Yourself:
Avid Cyclist
Bottom Line:
No, I would not recommend this to a friend

Comments about VIEWPOINT ViewPoint OS Spacebar:

ViewPoint's engineers obviously spent som time with Erector-Sets and never advanced. The hardware is junk... takes an hour to install... and screws are just cheap metal that will rust. Outdoor use is a good place for stainless steel.

Why design something this difficult to mount when cyclists need to take it off after the fall season and mount it again next year?

I could have designed a better set-up when I was 12 years old... no question.

Hopefully... next year I'll find another option.

Does not fit OS bars
By BrianVerified Reviewer from NJ on 10/23/2006
Pros:
Good idea
Cons:
Does not fit OS Bars
Best Uses:
Commuting

Comments about VIEWPOINT ViewPoint OS Spacebar:

The fitting strap is not long enough to accomodate any bars thicker than 28.2

Performance Bike Response: Sounds like you may have accidently gotten a mis-packaged standard bar model. Please return yours for an exchange or refund.

Tough to attach
By NH Seacoast RiderVerified Reviewer from Hampton, NH on 8/23/2006
Pros:
Functional
Cons:
Difficult to mount
Best Uses:
Commuting, Necessary with aerobars, Road Racing

Comments about VIEWPOINT ViewPoint OS Spacebar:

Once it's mounted, it works great. But mounting it requires a lot of trial and error trying to get the bolt to thread into the nut. If I were the mfr, I would provide a clip to keep the metal band from spreading and obscuring the nut.
