Chuck Lewis

What is your Job?
Director of Engineering & Logistics. This means keeping the wheels of commerce well lubed, both on the automated conveyor system in our Distribution System and on the shipments to our retail stores and consumers.

How long have you worked here?
I began work with Performance in the fall of 1982--prepping frames, building wheels, and filling customer orders. As the business grew and evolved so did my responsibilities and opportunities within the company.

Why do you ride a bike?
When I was 16 (in 1962) I bought a 10-speed from Sears and rode it to my part-time job on Saturday 12 miles each way. It was a thrill that has never left.

Where do your ride?
Primarily over rural Orange, Chatham, and Alamance Counties in North Carolina.

What has been your favorite ride?
My personal Tour de France—a ride from Brussels to Montpellier and back during a 2 month break from work.

What do you ride?
A Performance R007 carbon fiber. This was the first generation of carbon fiber bikes designed by Performance.

What has been your biggest learn while riding?
Yes, I can.

What is your favorite part of your bike?
My smooth shifting Dura-Ace dual control levers. I had been using Campagnolo down tube friction levers for a generation prior to making the big upgrade.
