Poplar Creek
Description: A 9.5-mile paved loop around Poplar Creek Forest Preserve near Hoffman Estates. The trail has a couple of hills but is otherwise level and makes for a pleasant journey through the wooded preserve.
Difficulty: All levels
Location: Hoffman Estates, IL

Busse Woods
Description: Busse Woods is one of eight bicycle trails in Chicago's Cook County and definitely one of the best. You'll be in and out of dark forests and open fields for most of the trail while patches of Busse Lake come and go. There are no hills-just winding pavement. It's the perfect preserve for those who want to coast along without a care in the world.
Difficulty: All levels
Location: Schaumburg, IL

Deer Grove
Description: This is like mountain biking without the mountains. There are plenty of hills, which makes for great exercise. This is mostly non-technical riding but there are areas that you have to pay attention to what you are doing. The trails are crushed limestone and some singletrack dirt trails.
Difficulty: Intermediate
Location: The main entrance to Deer Grove Forest Preserve is off the west side of Quentin Road between Dundee and Lake-Cook roads in Palatine.
