Castelli Entrata Bib Shorts Description:

The Entrata Bib Short just works right. Castelli has innovation in their DNA, and has brought you many innovations in cycling shorts over the years: the first Lycra® shorts on the market, the first synthetic seat pads, the first anatomical seat pads, the first minimalist and flat bib straps, and the first flat leg grippers. All these have become industry standards, and Castelli keeps pushing and innovating in their high-end shorts.

The Entrata short is where Castelli brings all that knowledge and experience into a short that just plain works. The fabric is just the right weight with just the right stretch and with a matte finish that looks just right. The KISS Air2 seat pad is just right, as is the GIRO3 leg gripper. And the short fits just right because Castelli obsesses over the fit of every short they make.

Castelli wanted this short to be just right for many years to come, so they stitch on the logos and stitch in the reflective panels on the back. There are no logos to peel off, and everything is stitched down securely. This short gives you every reason to step up to Castelli.

Castelli's entry-level short still needs to be an amazing short in order to carry the scorpion logo. Comfort from quality fabrics, the KISS Air2 seat pad, and eight-panel construction are brought together with an overall focus on durability.

Features:

  • Castelli comfort and quality at a reasonable price
  • KISS Air2 seat pad for comfort on all but the longest of rides
  • GIRO3 leg grippers keep shorts from bunching up
  • Stitched on logos and reflective panels enhance durability

Specifications:

  • Gender: Men
  • Season: Warm Weather
  • Fabric: Pro Dry Lycra

Castelli Entrata Bib Shorts (Black) (S)
Great bib short for the price, particularly when compared to LG and PI. Quality construction, chamois and wide leg grips. DO NOT MAKE MY MISTAKE:
I followed the sizing chart and ordered up ONE size (XL) , as recommended on the site. You need to order TWO sizes up (XXL)! I'm 6'2', 186lbs, 33" waist.

Castelli Entrata Bib Shorts (Black) (L)
Some background information first: I'm 6 feet tall, kinda slim, and wear a 34" x 34" pant. I'm not a competitive cyclist (although I shave my legs). Despite biking for about 34 years so far, I don't have huge quads.

Previously, I'd worn medium size Rapha Core Bib Shorts (also about $100 which is my budget for bibs). The Rapha shorts always felt just a tiny bit too large, especially at the grippers. They are a little too long, and not tight enough for my skinny legs at the grippers. When descending I could sometimes feel the edge of the shorts flapping in the wind which is super annoying. Yet size small would be way too small.

Enter the Castelli Entrata Bib Shorts. They say to order these one or two sizes larger than your normal size. So I ordered large and extra large and the XL was obviously too big so I didn't even try them on. The large shorts fit just right, and fit the way I wished the Rapha shorts had fit, but didn't. So for me, the size difference between the Rapha shorts and the Castelli Entrata is more like 1.25 sizes, or at least somewhere between 1 and 1.5 sizes.

The Castelli pad is at least as good as the Rapha pad - no complaints there, although so far I've only ridden the Castelli shorts a couple of times on a trainer (too damn cold in NY right now). Time will tell how they hold up, but Castelli has been around for a while, and is generally regarded as a "good" brand so I expect the Entrata shorts will last a few years.

Castelli Entrata Bib Shorts (Black) (XL)
Normally, I wear a large in Pearl Izumi bibs, but went up to an XL buying these (based on the sizing chart, previous reviews and past experience with Castelli jerseys running small). I'm exchanging them to go up to an even bigger size. They seem like quality bibs... but sized for a 14-year-old. Fingers crossed that 2XL will fit my 6' body.

Look to be good shorts. Just remember to go up a size or two with Castelli. Done make my mistake.

Castelli Sizing: Many Castelli products are designed with a European race-fit. It is not uncommon to size up one or two sizes for the right fit.

Note: All measurements are provided by the manufacturer and may vary depending on how measurements are acquired. Castelli instructs that for best results measurements be taken over underwear. Castelli recommends sizing up if measurements fall between sizes for a better fit.
