The Continental 26" Der Kaiser 2.4 Project Apex Mountain Tire is born out of the demands of the highest level World Cup downhill racing and full-bore free riding endeavors. Strength, grip, and puncture resistance are what this monster of a tire is all about. The sidewalls of freeride and downhill tires are subjected to extraordinarily high loads and that's where Continental's Apex technology comes in. A rubber layer is placed between the sidewall layers to ensure stability. The tire is thus protected from impact with the rim during rough rides over rocky ground. Furthermore, the tire stays more upright when cornering. It does not bend over the sides of the rim when subjected to transverse loads and always stays true to the course. There are also 6 plies of 60 TPI casing under the tread as well as 4 plies of 60 TPI casing in the sidewalls for superb strength. Not only that, there's a special downhill bead profile and high tensile steel core wire bead to keep the tire firmly in place on the rim. And to ensure you roll smooth and dig in to the terrain, the tread is constructed of Continental's renowned BlackChili compound.
