The Giro Artex MIPS Helmet is a fresh take on helmet design. Offering an exceptionally compact road-race-inspired design coupled with a removable visor and slightly deeper coverage for riding trails and grinding out long miles on mixed-surface roads. The fit is luxurious and secure, thanks to Giro's highly adjustable Roc Loc 5 Air MIPS system that allows you to customize fit/feel for great stability and long-range comfort while providing an added measure of protection from rotational forces in the event of an angled impact. The outer shell is molded from a tough polycarbonate that's fused permanently to the EPS foam liner using Giro's In-Mold construction process to enhance durability and ventilation without excess bulk.

I needed a XL helmet to accommodate my winter skull cap because of the thicker material of earlier performance cap from many years ago.

Having tried on another Giro model of helmet, at my local LBS, and sizing myself up I felt confident purchasing the Artex in an XL. It was too big unfortunately. I had to send it back and size down.

Giro Artex MIPS Helmet (Matte Black) (M)
I wanted just a basic, solid, well built, well fitting helmet. The Giro Artex is certainly did not measure up to that and I've returned it to Performance Bicycle. I measured my head circumference as described in the performance catalog and the helmet I received was small, even though my previous Giro helmet is the same size. It is an uncomfortable fit – no padding, does allowance for good air flow and trying to adjust the straps to improve the fit is anything but obvious.

Helmet Measurements:

  • Wrap a measuring tape around your head
  • Make sure that tape is level from front to back

Note: Make sure the helmet fits with a little room when the fit system is loose, and sits low enough to protect your forehead without hindering your vision. Once you've got the right size, you can adjust the fit.

How to Adjust Fit:

  1. Adjust the fit system at the rear of the helmet for a snug, secure fit. Some helmets also include a vertical tuning feature that allows you to adjust the fore/aft tilt, for optimal positioning on your head.
  2. Adjust the straps so that they sit just below the earlobes.
  3. Adjust the buckle so that it rests against the back of the jaw/throat.
  4. Adjust the interior pads if needed.
  5. Check the fit to make sure helmet is comfortable and secure. It should not roll forward or back, or be able to slide off.
