The Maxxis Ardent has an aggressive tread in a high-volume casing and is designed with great traction in mind. The Ardent doesn't forget the racer with large block-style side knobs offering numerous edges for high-speed cornering. The center tread, while ideal for braking and accelerating traction, also features ramped knobs to minimize rolling resistance. With a wide variety of size offerings, the Ardent captures every mountain rider's needs.

The most important part of a tire is arguably the rubber compound used to within the tread and with Maxxis's Dual Compound you get two compounds that offer low rolling resistance and increased cornering grip.

Features:

  • EXO: Extremely cut-resistant and abrasion resistant material layer added to sidewalls
  • TR: Tubeless Ready for increased traction and lower rolling resistance
  • WT: Wide Trail casing used on 2.4" models is optimized for wider inner rim widths

Maxxis Ardent Tubeless Mountain Tire (Black) (29") (2.4")
I couldn't find the tires I had wanted anywhere. Decided I'd give these a try. Very please so far. Much better than I had expected!

Maxxis Ardent Tubeless Mountain Tire (Black) (27.5") (2.4")
This is a great tire on hard pack. Its light and fast. When things get loose or loamy, it suffers a bit. I ran it as a rear tire, paired with a High Roller II 2.3/3C in the front, and as long as the surface was solid, the tire was really good. As spring rolled into summer, and things dried out and got fluffy, I couldn't really trust it in the turns at high speeds. It had a somewhat nervous feel and would slide out from under me unexpectedly. Also, on technical climbs out of the saddle, I had to pick my lines very carefully and avoid anything even remotely loose or I would break traction. Not the best choice if you are the type that wants one tire to go everywhere, but if you want a light, fast tire and ride hard pack exclusively, there are very few tires that can offer the same balance of weight/speed/lifespan.
