This is the Maxxis Minion DHR II 27.5 EXO Tubeless Tire, in 3C Maxx Terra compound. When you need a tire for less than perfect conditions and aggressive riding, look no further than the Minion DHR II. This trail specific version of the DHR II features the same tread pattern as its downhill counterpart that carried Greg Minnaar to his 2012 WC title, but uses a single-ply casing to dramatically reduce weight. The side knobs were inspired by the legendary Minion DHF, but have been widened to offer more grip, allowing the DHR II to corner like no other. The center tread features ramped knobs to improve acceleration and increase pedaling efficiency, while vertical and horizontal siping creates a smooth transition when leaning the bike and improve braking performance. Paddle-like knobs on the center tread dig in under hard braking and help keep the bike under control. Pair this tire with a Minion DHF up front for the ultimate aggressive trail riding combo!

  • TUBELESS READY: Tubeless tires provide the rider with many benefits: the ability to run lower air pressures, which improves traction; lower rolling resistance when compared to a tube-type tire; and less chance of flatting since there is no tube. Maxxis Tubeless Ready (TR) tires provide the benefits of a UST tubeless tire without the weight penalty. TR tires use a standard casing and require the use of a liquid sealant in order to make them airtight. Maxxis Tubeless Ready tires are the only Maxxis tires approved for use with liquid sealants. Using a liquid sealant in any non-TR Maxxis tire will void the warranty.
  • 3C TRIPLE COMPOUND - MOUNTAIN: Maxxis 3C Triple Compound mountain technology uses a harder, longer lasting base layer and two progressively softer top layers in order to optimize traction and stability. Maxxis offers three different configurations of 3C Triple Compound mountain technology: Maxx Speed, Maxx Terra and Maxx Grip.
  • MAXX TERRA: An intermediate compound configuration used in select mountain tires. 3C Maxx Terra is softer and offers more traction than 3C Maxx Speed, yet provides better treadwear and less rolling resistance than Maxx Grip.
  • Wide Trail (WT) Casing: (on 2.4 & 2.6 versions)  optimized for 30-35mm inner width rims

Maxxis Minion DHR II 27.5" EXO Tubeless Tire (3C Maxx Terra) (27.5 x 2.3)
This tire in the rear, paired with the Maxxis DHF in the front, is my favorite combo I have ever run. A true trifecta of tire performance...light, fast rolling, killer traction. This tire should make the other tire companies very nervous. I have used a bunch of different tires over the years, and the DHF/DHR II combo just cannot be matched when it comes to all around aggressive riding performance. Are there lighter tires? Sure, but they don't last and tend to go flat at the worst times. Are there faster tires? Sure, but they don't hook up. Are there tires that make more traction? Sure, but they don't roll as well and usually weigh a ton. Hardpack, rocks, loose over hard and loamy, the DHF/DHR II just seems to work everywhere. Comparing to other tires in the Maxxis lineup, I would say this tire grips like a High Roller II, but without the vague transition into the side knobs, and pedals almost as fast an Ardent. Lifespan is excellent too, after almost 200 miles in a variety of conditions (including pavement) the tire shows little to no signs of wear.
