Orbea Oiz H10 TR Full Suspension Mountain Bike (Black/Ice Green) (M)
OK a few things. Regarding the purchase from Performance Bikes. I normally would never order a bike off of the internet because I like to sit on them, see how they fit etc. However, I needed a medium and it is tough to find a medium bike in a bike shop near me, I live very rural so I decided to give it a shot.

Performance was easy to deal with and I was impressed with one exception. Whoever put the cables on the bike did an awful job. The shifter cables were OK. Rear brake cable OK. The front brake cable was so long if I did not secure it to other cables it could get caught up on the trail. The dropper post cable was the worst. I mean this thing was so long I thought it must have been a joke. I was able to cut it and make it work for now but I will have a bike mechanic clean it and clean the front brake cable up. Other than that, they did a very good job on the assembly. I never would have taken it out of a brick and mortar bike shop with the cables in that condition though. However with that exception, I was very pleased with Performance and the assembly.

The bike itself is actually better than I thought. I was a bit concerned about the Deore Brakes as I am used to XT, but they actually provide plenty of stopping power and I have been bombing down so 30% grades on gravel roads and they also are just fine on single track. No complaints. The XT shifter, crankset and rear derailleur are flawless. The Cassette is an SLX but it shifts just fine. I am used to riding very steep HT angles so this 68 is plenty slack for me. The bike still has a XC feel but is more than capable on trail conditions. I have been having fun. It climbs well and drops downhill well with lots of control and sticks to the road well. The Fox suspension is really impressive. I've been a Rock Shox guy for a long time and I could not be happier with the Fox fork and shock.

The weak point and I fully expected and knew it is the wheels. The Race Face AR 30's with the Shimano Deore hubs are sluggish. They are heavy and the engagement is loose. I am used to riding on quality after market wheels so I knew I would notice it right away. Most $4,000 bikes you will have this with wheels so it is not expected. I have my Industry Nine wheels on order. So aside from the expected quality of the stock wheels I think it is an odd choice to put 30mm wheels on a bike that is a hybrid between a XC and a Trail. Even if one does consider it a full on trail bike, which again, it is completely capable as such, these are more like enduro wheels. I think Orbea could have chosen better. That is what took away the star.

Speaking of wheels, the tires were supposed to be Maxxis Forkaster and I was looking forward to them. However, it came with Recon Race. So they put XC tires on a bike advertised as Trail, on wheels that could very well be enduro. However, that all being said, it is disclosed the components are subject to change. From my standpoint I wanted a XC tire as well as a trail tire. I was planning on getting a set of each so no big deal from my standpoint but someone else might be annoyed. I am pleased the Recon Race Tires are the highest quality with the 120 TPI and the bells and whistle protection Maxxis has to offer.

I did not like the low straight handlebars and I put Race face Next Carbon Bars on with a 20 degree rise. I use those bars on many bikes and am very pleased with them. The saddle is awful. Most stock saddles are so no shock but be prepared to change it. I can't imagine anyone keeping it. I rode it a few times just for a review and then put my usual saddle on. Handlebars and saddles are the changes most people do anyway as they are such personal preferences so I won't hold it against Orbea.

So in short, great bike. Once I get my I-9 Wheel Set on it will be 5 star. I am very happy overall with Performance Bikes just I think QC should have noticed the absurdity of the cables. I would defiantly but this bike again thru Performance.
