Vittoria Rubino Pro Control Road Tire (Black) (700c) (25mm)
A little bit of background; I am old. I am 66 (I hate to see that number when I type it) and I still ride a steel bike, a Waterford that was built for me almost two decades ago. Because of age and years of sustain injuries on the job, I am just not a fast rider anymore and century rides seem to indicate something that is related to my age now rather than distance. So, what does this have to do with tires? Simply this; the Vittoria is a very good tire for me and what I do. To try and stay in shape and keep me out of hospitals and all, I try to get a 20-25 mile ride in each day. Not very "studly" compared to many others out there, but hey, I am happy I am able to still do this. The Vittoria Rubino Pro G2.0 replaced the old and darn near threadbare Conti 4000 tires that were on my Waterford. I was not expecting what I got from the Vittorias that is, I expected something a lot slower but so far, I am pretty impressed with the speed of this tire. Roads near me have a lot of builders' debris and the Contis were not spared the abuse from this crap in the road, but the Vittorias seem to be able to shrug off any damage (so far). Damp pavement has not caused me to slip or crash as the Vittorias seem to have some very nice wet pavement gripping abilities (I live near Seattle so rain is no stranger to this area). I bought these as a training / everyday kind of tire and it seems that these fit that bill. For an old fart that is not scorching up the tarmac and not looking for 12 hours in the saddle but rather a rather nice few hours ride or so on something reliable and rugged these tires fill that bill rather nicely. Also, these are a rather handsome tire as far as tires go.
