Paul Components Klamper Disc Brake Caliper (All Black) (Mechanical) (Front or Rear) (Short Pull)
Huge fan of Pauls products including their brakes for decades so was pleased to discover these Klampers while planning a mechanical disc brake road bike build. Klampers did not disappoint they are really well built if not over built product. Super simple to set up. The included sintered pads are a little slow to bed but no complaints afterwards they work great. No regrets vs hydraulics these things stop hard and are road serviceable/adjustable which was why I went with mechanical vs hydraulic in the first place. Only word of caution is that the Klamper caliper body is on the large side so test fit them (caliper stencil available for download on Pauls website) to ensure they will fit your setup. And I could see how the wider caliper body could possibly present a heel kicking hazard in the rear on some frames. Also just a general word of caution on mechanical disc brake installation with internal cable routing (fork and/or frame) check the housing path to the housing stop on the caliper arm. It is possible that the required housing bend will be too severe necessitating a bypass of internal fork routing or creative zip ties use on chain stay. Not a deal breaker for me I was able to utilize internal paths on my frame and fork but I imagine it could be an issue for some others especially if running 160mm rotors on a road bike since they push the caliper closer to internal housing exits. Also related point I second Pauls advise don't bother with stiffer compression-less brake housing unless you have a dead straight housing path you will run into challenges with required tight bends on many frames/forks. And the brakes work great with regular brake housing. Very happy with purchase and hoping these last as long as other Pauls products I have been enjoying for decades.
